Welcome To Twin Peaks West. Also known as District 4, this centrally located neighborhood offers several minor neighborhoods including Mt Davidson, St. Francis Wood, Westwood Highlands, Westwood Park, Forest Hill and West Portal., It is located West of Highway 1, southwest of Diamond Heights, west of Interstate 280 and north of Ocean Avenue.
Named after the two hills with an elevation of about 925 feet in the geographic center of San Francisco East, they are the highest points in the city save for Mount Davidson Mount. Twin Peak Blvd circles a figure eight around these peaks and it was originally a look-out for early settlers. When San Francisco passed under American control during the 19th century, this area, originally named Los Pechos de la Chola was renamed to Twin Peaks. From up here anyone has a stunning view of the city and surrounding neighborhoods.
Twin Peaks is home to the San Francisco Police Department Academy at the base of the peaks but the top is still undeveloped. It is part of the 31 acres of the Twin Peaks Natural Area, managed and owned by the recreation and Parks Department of the city. Most of this district is residential and there are numerous residential parks featuring wide and elegant landscaping throughout the neighborhoods. There are restaurants, upscale businesses and boutiques as well as schools, coffee shops and modern commerce. Prices start at about $500,000 for condominiums in Twin Peaks.
