Primarily residential, the Sunset District features stunning views along great highway of the water and endless views of the sunset each night. These avenues were originally named from first Street to 49th St. and the East and West streets were lettered A to X. Today the first numbered Avenue is second Avenue starting one block west of Arguello Boulevard and the last is 48th Ave. near Ocean Beach Road.
Sunset District is separated into four smaller neighborhoods: Inner Sunset, Central Sunset, Outer Sunset, and Parkside. Nearly all are primarily residential. The strip near the Pacific ocean has a notable population of surfers. Because our Pacific brings in cold ocean water from Alaska, most surfers where a wetsuit. There are several playground and parks located in this neighborhood including the Sunset playground of recreational center, Blue Boat playground, McCoppin Square and South Sunset.
